The Ultimate 3-Day Family Friendly Jackson Hole Itinerary
Adventures Awaits...
Jackson Hole is the perfect setting for a memorable family escape, offering something for every age to enjoy. This three-day itinerary is designed to help you make the most of your time here. Its possibilities are only the beginning; our Pathfinders team at The Cloudveil is always on hand to tailor further recommendations to your family’s preferences, ensuring an unforgettable stay in Jackson.
Day 1
Breakfast
Begin the morning at Snake River Roasting Company, where exceptional coffee meets a breakfast menu ranging from flaky pastries to hearty plates. The scrambled eggs royale, with smoked salmon and honey mustard hollandaise atop brioche, is a standout.
Morning: Snow King Mountain
Just a few blocks from The Cloudveil, Snow King Mountain offers a wonderful morning of play for every generation. The Cowboy Coaster welcomes riders as young as two (accompanied by an adult), the alpine slide remains a beloved classic, and mini golf and the maze are enjoyable for all ages. For older children and adults, the Treetop Adventure Ropes Course delivers, and the mountain’s zip line (the steepest in North America) is not to be missed.
Lunch
Settle in at Jackson Drug for soups, salads, burgers, and sandwiches made with care. Be sure to save room for one of their specialty milkshakes. The s’mores and cowboy coffee mocha flavors are particular favorites of ours.
Afternoon: Whitewater Rafting
Suitable for ages six and up, a run through Snake River Canyon offers dramatic scenery alongside Class II and III rapids, interspersed with calmer stretches, ideal for both young adventurers and seasoned river-goers alike.
For families with younger children, scenic float trips welcome guests as young as four. These gentle, dry excursions offer a graceful introduction to the river, with an experienced guide steering the boat and sharing insight into the surrounding landscape.
Dinner
Close the day just around the corner from The Cloudveil at Hand Fire Pizza, set within the former Teton Theater. Their wood-fired pizzas, fresh salads, and drink offerings make for an easy, enjoyable meal the whole family will appreciate.
Day 2
Breakfast
Set out early, pausing at Creekside Deli for a breakfast sandwich and to gather snacks, drinks, and sandwiches for a picnic later in the park.
Morning: Grand Teton National Park & String Lake
Among our favorite family outings is a day at String Lake. Shallower and warmer than many of the other Teton lakes, it’s ideally suited to swimming, paddleboarding, picnicking, and easy hiking. Paddleboards can be arranged in advance through the Pathfinders team at The Cloudveil, and a lovely picnic area awaits those bringing lunch. Please practice safe food storage by using the bear boxes provided at the lake.
Afternoon: Downtown Jackson
Return in the afternoon to unwind before heading out to explore the shops surrounding Town Square. Step outside The Cloudveil and you’ll find a fine array of boutiques, galleries, and restaurants at your doorstep. Teton Toys, just a block away, is filled with treasure for children to discover. Yippy I-O Candy offers a delightful selection of bulk candies, chocolates, and homemade fudge for those with a sweet tooth. Lee’s Tees carries a thoughtful range of JacksonHole-themed apparel and souvenirs for all ages, and MODERNBEAST is well worth a visit for gifts suited to the four-legged members of the family.
Don’t miss the nightly shootout on Town Square. Staged Monday through Saturday at 6:00 PM from Memorial Day through Labor Day by actors from the Jackson Hole Playhouse, this free fifteen-to-twenty minute performance — the longest-running shootout in the country — pays homage to Jackson’s early frontier days, and takes place right on the corner beside The Cloudveil.
Dinner
Conclude your time on the square with dinner at Local, one of our favorite restaurants for its modern American menu and refined steakhouse offerings. The buffalo ribeye, brussels sprouts, and wagyu chef’s burger are local favorites.
Day 3
A day in Yellowstone
No visit is complete without exploring Yellowstone National Park, and entrusting the details with an expert guide makes for a truly effortless family experience. A private tour with Jackson Hole EcoTour Adventures is a wonderful way to spend the day. Your guide will meet you at The Cloudveil in a safari vehicle, ready for a day devoted to exploration and wildlife viewing. As these excursions run ten to twelve hours, parents will appreciate having every detail handled — breakfast, snacks, drinks, and lunch, along with thoughtfully chosen stops and hands-on materials and activity books to keep younger travelers engaged throughout the day.
Dinner
Upon returning to The Cloudveil, enjoy dinner at The Bistro. Our French-inspired restaurant offers a menu with something for everyone, the steak frites and duck confit are among our favorites, while younger guests will find familiar comforts, such as grilled cheese, pasta, and burgers.
